01 — About
A life rebuilt through words.
Born in the Dominican Republic, I built a career in law and public service before immigrating to the United States in search of love, family, and a new beginning.
When that hope became a journey through abuse, motherhood, immigration uncertainty, and institutional judgment, writing became the place where I could tell the whole story—not a fragment captured by someone else.
Today, I create books and screen stories that give language to experiences many women carry in silence. My work is rooted in truth, dignity, and the belief that pain can become purpose.

The work behind the name.
Yohara Caraballo is a Dominican attorney, former Cessna 172 single-engine pilot, political activist, author and emerging screenwriter whose path spans public service, aviation, international legal representation, community leadership and independent storytelling.
International representation
She served as a Dominican Republic delegate and lawyer at the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Legal Committee.

Political activist
Before immigrating to the United States, she participated actively in Dominican political and civic life, advocating through leadership and public engagement.

Her educational and leadership journey included the Global Dominican Academic Exchange and participation connected with Harvard.

Before immigrating to the United States, Yohara Caraballo participated actively in Dominican political and civic life. Her public leadership grew alongside approximately a decade of government service, legal work, and international representation.
Her journey included the Dominican Global Academic Exchange, an initiative of FUNGLODE and GFDD—institutions founded and led by former Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernández. Through the program, Yohara participated in an academic exchange connected with Harvard University and later delivered a special presentation at FUNGLODE.
These experiences reflect a longstanding commitment to civic engagement, education, leadership, and the advancement of the Dominican Republic.

A Dominican mother sacrifices her legal career and homeland for family. When one recorded exchange threatens to define her forever, she must reclaim her identity—and authorship of her own life.
Inspired by Yohara’s memoir and lived experience, the project explores motherhood, migration, postpartum trauma, economic dependence, institutional judgment, and the distance between a recorded image and the full human truth.
The short-film proof of concept preserves the emotional core of the feature while introducing its intimate, observational world.
